Who We Are...

Mattapan Community Health Center (MCHC) is a comprehensive health delivery organization that serves individuals from the Mattapan, Dorchester, Roxbury and Hyde Park neighborhoods of Boston, as well as adjacent Boston suburbs like Brockton, Randolph and Stoughton. It is the only community health center in Mattapan and Hyde Park.

Established in 1972 as the Avenue Neighborhood Health Center; it was incorporated in 1974 with its current name; click here to see some of the major milestones in our history. MCHC is independently licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Board members represent communities served by the Health Center. The senior leadership and staff are diverse, dedicated, experienced professionals.

MCHC was one of the first health centers in the country to receive federal funding under the Carter Urban Health Initiative; today the federal grant remains a major source of funding to support the Center's health services for the underinsured and underserved populations. The Health Center participates in two national initiatives - Take a Loved One in to the Doctor Day to increase health care access and the Health Disparities Collaborative on Diabetes to decrease health disparities.
MCHC is committed to its mission of improving the quality of life for residents of Mattapan and surrounding communities by providing comprehensive, accessible, affordable and culturally appropriate community health care services, including primary and preventive health services.

These services are provided from two locations - the primary delivery site at 1425 Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan and a School-Based Health Center at the Hyde Park Education Complex. Our service population is primarily Black/African Americans, including a large percentage of Caribbean Immigrants. More than 7,000 individuals are served annually through 26,000 visits. The Mattapan community has some of the most serious health problems in Boston. An annual Community Health Report Card for Mattapan and Hyde Park tracks key health indicators.

Since 1997, with community partners, MCHC has offered two annual outreach and fundraising initiatives. Health Care Revival, a faith-based community celebration of a healthy mind, body and spirit, received international recognition in the American Journal of Public Health, February 2002 issue. Rock the Boat, a fundraising gala, supports MCHC's family and community health programs and services, and our capital expansion project.
